Literacy for organizations

The courses are designed to offer personalized attention tailored to each student’s learning pace

The literacy courses for organizations in Spanish are aimed at a type of student with very specific needs where more personalized attention is required, as the learning pace will depend on the student’s profile.

Our program is based on identifying the literacy level of students and placing them in one of the four levels of the LIAM system. Therefore, it is essential to create a type of class-workshop where different profiles can work, and teachers can provide individualized attention. Additionally, whenever possible, we will use the help of assistant teachers who can voluntarily reinforce the individual development of each student.

The program will focus on the daily needs of students, so they can practice in a practical way all they are learning, using various resources and materials and reinforcing other skills related to literacy, such as digitalization, arithmetic, or cultural knowledge of their surroundings.

Modality: In-person
Level: Alpha 1
Days: Monday to Thursday
Schedule:

· Midday: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM

Duration: Depends on each student
Group size: 5 to 10 students
Class hour: 55 minutes

Courses are organized in cycles of five weeks, Monday to Friday (between 8 and 10 hours a week depending on the level).

Students can join different groups based on their level at any point during the course, as once an eight-week cycle finishes, each group starts the same level course again.

We use CEAR’s own manuals; Conecta(R) and other printed materials, stationery, real text examples, and audiovisual materials available at the BCNLIP Learning Resource Center (CREA).

Additionally, literacy manuals such as Oralpha, INTEGRA2, Ponle acento, DIGLIN, and others from institutions like Cajamadrid or the Red Cross are also used.

Each course has a start and end date that may not coincide with the start or end of a week. Once the start date is known, teachers plan the distribution of the course content. Approximately one week is dedicated to each unit of learning.

The foundation follows a continuous evaluation system in all courses, meaning that regular feedback is provided to each student to help them improve. In literacy courses, each teacher conducts even more personalized tracking, assessing various aspects of the students’ progress. The aim is for tests and tasks to be as practical as possible and relevant to the learning process. Upon completion of the course, the foundation issues the corresponding certificates.
