BCNlip Language School Code of Conduct

Rules of coexistence promote respect, guide school relationships, and serve as a reference to prevent and resolve conflicts in community life

Course Profile and Organization

Respect for cultural, sexual, gender, social, and economic diversity. Both the teaching-learning process and all school activities are framed within mutual respect among all members of BCNLIP. Our differences—expressions of diversity and multiculturalism—constitute the school’s profile, and the recognition of the dignity of others and their integration form its educational principles and values.

Behaviors, verbal expressions, or gestures that undermine the dignity of anybody , whether student, teacher, administrative staff, or any other member of the institution, will not be permitted or tolerated.

Acts of physical violence within or outside the school facilities, in front of the building, or in the surrounding area will not be tolerated. Any student engaging in such acts, individually or in groups, spontaneously or premeditatedly, will be sanctioned and, depending on the severity of the case, may be immediately expelled from the institution at the discretion of the management, following a case evaluation.

Requests for teacher changes will not be accepted. The school organizes courses, assigns teachers, and merges groups according to its criteria and needs, with pedagogical considerations.

Only in exceptional and serious situations will the management evaluate and decide on the necessity of a course or teacher change.

Punctuality

Students must enter the classroom at the agreed time. In case of delays or exceptional circumstances that prevent it, prior notice should be given to the corresponding teacher. Entry into the classroom will not be allowed between 15 and 30 minutes after the class has started.

Mobile Phone Use

Mobile phones may not be used in class unless the teacher asks for it as part of a teaching activity with purely educational purposes. Recording fellow students or teachers during class or outside it, within the school premises, without their consent or covertly for distribution, is prohibited.

WhatsApp groups have a strictly pedagogical and educational function. Its use is regulated under the current regulations. Its use for gathering information (phone numbers, profiles, and personal data) or communicating with teachers outside of their working hours, invading their privacy, will not be allowed.

The classroom, as well as all school facilities, constitutes a private space. Any student who violates these rules will be immediately sanctioned, based on the criteria and decisions deemed appropriate, according to article 197 of the Penal Code, as well as Data Protection Laws and Digital Rights Guarantees.

Zoom Camera Use

All students attending class remotely via Zoom are required to turn on their cameras and remain visible throughout the class or workshop both to the teacher and to the group. A turned-off camera or absence from the screen will be counted as “absent.”

In case of technical issues with the connection, the teacher should immediately be notified. If the issue originates from the educational space and its system, the necessary steps will be taken to resolve it.

Classes on Zoom may be recorded if necessary and for pedagogical purposes, within the school and by authorized staff. Prior notice and consent from the students will be required. Remote attendance via Zoom is an alternative option for students to participate in courses, but it does not replace the requirement for in-person attendance.

Course Attendance

a. Students with and without a Visa.

For the issuance of the final Certificate of Completion, students must consider the following:

  • Certificates of completion will be issued based on attendance, classroom behavior, and the final exam, which will be reflected in credits. Therefore, regular attendance and active participation in classes are essential for obtaining this certificate. Students may receive a Certificate of Completion or, if insufficient credits are earned, a certificate acknowledging the course level through an official exam (SIELE/DELE).
  • The school will assign the course to the candidate and propose issuing the Certificate of Completion according to the teacher’s report.

b. Minimum Attendance

  • Students must meet 80% attendance in the corresponding course to be considered a regular student. Otherwise, failure to attend class regularly, either in person or via Zoom without prior justification accepted by the teacher or the school administration, or sporadic attendance with unsubstantiated excuses, will result in losing the “regular” student status and the possibility of continuing the course.
  • The promotion, support, and inclusion of students with diverse backgrounds—whether cultural, religious, and/or social—does not exclude or justify the failure to comply with the institution’s rules and the regular and organized attendance of the courses in which they are enrolled. Failure to meet the minimum requirements for language learning and training, which validate their status as students, and the persistence in deceptive, intimidating, and/or falsely accusatory behaviors, communications, or strategies towards teachers, administrative staff, and/or school authorities—which undermine the educational community and its proper functioning—will result in automatic expulsion. If necessary, the loss of their regular student status will be reported to the relevant authorities, and all appropriate measures will be taken depending on the case.

c. Attendance may be verified by the Department of Foreign Affairs or the Police for administrative or legal purposes, such as in the case of visa renewal.

d. Family and work-life balance will be considered, allowing flexible attendance for students with newborn children or dependents. In such cases, remote class attendance via Zoom is permitted.

e. For pedagogical and organizational reasons, minors are not regularly allowed in the classrooms or other school areas. The school is not responsible for the care of children during class time.

However, we understand that unexpected situations may arise, and as long as the class is not disrupted, the team may consider occasional exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

f. Any action aimed at impersonating another person during school activities, class attendance, or exams, or any forgery or theft of academic documents, private data of any community member, or through the theft of data from the school’s systems, will result in immediate expulsion and legal action.

g.Students enrolled in a 45-hour “arraigo” course may not miss more than three classes. In addition, students referred by other entities may lose their spot if their attendance falls below 50%

Language of Use

The language of study will be used throughout the courses and workshops. The school’s methodology, focused on communication, task-based learning, and immersion, will be respected. Our goal is to facilitate students’ integration into the Catalan community and culture.

Continuous Evaluation and Final Exams

Evaluation will be carried out exclusively by the course instructor. Their judgment is final and cannot be challenged.

The test must be taken in person and without translators, electronic devices or any external aids.

Copying, using unauthorized materials, or any attempt to deceive will result in immediate disqualification from the exam.

The teacher’s evaluation is final. The grading and approval of the level will be based on a credit system for this purpose.

Classroom Behavio

Students are expected to behave respectfully towards their peers and the teacher. Any misconduct may result in expulsion from the classroom.

Respect and Care for the Educational Space

Proper use of the school’s space, facilities, bathrooms, furniture, and materials is expected. Deliberate damage or theft will result in immediate sanctions.

Pets may be allowed in class with prior consent from the group and teacher. Consent will be requested for each new student to ensure the well-being of the entire group.

Attendance to class with domestic animals will be permitted, as long as it is approved by both the group and the corresponding teacher. Some individuals may exhibit different behaviors and emotions regarding this matter. The entry of domestic animals without prior consent will not be allowed, and in the presence of a new classmate, their opinion will also be consulted, in consideration of the physical and emotional well-being of all group members. This consultation will be repeated with the arrival of each new student.

The entry of objects or substances that are dangerous to the health and personal safety of members of the educational community will not be permitted.

Entry to the premises with scooters, bicycles, and/or any other means of transportation is not allowed. These must be left outside the school without blocking or obstructing access routes to the building or the free movement along the sidewalk.

Environmental Respect

The foundation is committed to promoting environmental awareness and responsible consumption. Immediate objectives include:

  • Promoting energy efficiency and savings.
  • Encouraging responsible water use.
  • Promoting waste management practices based on minimization, reuse, and recycling.
  • Supporting responsible consumption of products and services.
  • Identify and minimize other relevant environmental impacts associated with educational activities.

Food in Class

Eating during regular class or workshop sessions is prohibited unless specifically organized by the school and the teacher as part of an activity.

The school’s management will apply sanctions based on various factors to ensure a fair and proportional response to each violation.

  • Student’s age: the sanction will focus more on education and correction rather than punishment.
  • Personal, family, and/or social circumstances: The individual circumstances of the student, including their family and/or social environment, will be taken into consideration to evaluate and determine the appropriate response.
  • Mitigating factors: Certain actions may reduce the severity of the offense committed. These may include acknowledging the wrongdoing, repairing the harm caused, offering an apology, and/or performing tasks within the school environment that demonstrate a willingness to make amends.
  • Aggravating factors: Certain actions may increase the severity of the offense, including premeditation, planning, and/or repetition; indifference toward the actions; and when the actions harm or damage classmates and/or members of the educational community. Any form of discrimination will be considered a serious offense.
